DOWNY WOODPECKER

i've been visited daily by this cute little guy, who can't resist the sunflowers....here he is right-side-up on top of the potager gate...
here he enjoys the new cedar trellis, which we must have put there just for him...

We dont have woodpeckers down under...so it is good to see what they actually look like!

Sweet little woodpecker! I had a red headed Flicker the other day that was pecking a big hole in one of my birdhouses so I had to scare him off.

miss m, thanks for the comment as usual! he is cute and i'm attracted by his pluck!

sophie, thanks, the downy is only 6" long. many of the woodpeckers here are larger.

dinzie, thanks! i hear austrailia has many cool birds tho'!

connie, i don't think i've seen one of those yet!

Just be glad he isn't pecking on your house and keeping you up all hours!

Don't you just love watching the woodies? Their jerky little movements always make me smile.
Your pictures are the best :)

Beautiful photography as always. The sunflower photo captured the delicate balance between predator and prey.
