our deer look like this to me: next they will be asking for a decaf latte to go with those pansies. now the deer are coming into the back yard more often and decimating the phlox, clematis, anenmone, lillies, hostas, etc. sigh. pehaps i should leave the dogs out all night to chase the deer.

another rainy day, what's a whippet to do? this is not my favorite daylily, but in the rain it looks like a water color.

this daylily escaped the deer fencing and bloomed. daylilies are the deer's favorite food, so i fence them in. this primrose (tie dye) is 3 years old and finally bloomed. primroses are usually spring bloomers.

my favorite rose, dainty bess, is flowering now in the garden. this flower has been scanned with japanese maple leaves.

this little guy is hiding under a dombeya leaf. can anyone identify this insect before my brother does? here's the dombeya. it's a tropical, in a pot on the front steps. see the little insect?

happy father's day! we are looking after the neighbor's cavalier king charles spaniel. those ears have a life of their own! he's photogenic, young and playful.

here's an insect, almost 1.5" long, found in my garden today. my brother says it's an eyed elater, a giant click beetle, the largest click beetle in north and south america! (this was scanned on a piece of birch bark.)

sorry about the hiatus, but it was rainy for a few days. here's a detail of the main garden today. this old, weedy rose may even just be rootstock, but it's dependable! the flowers are a good 3" across. anyone know what it is?

clematis viticelle "etoile violette" just blooming on the fence. i forget which allium this is, but it's a much darker purple than this photo shows.

this little cabbage butterfly looked pretty cold today! you can even see its proboscis!

it has been raining all day, so i made a scan instead of taking a photo. the humidity gets inside the scanner to make the picture quality poor. but the pretty pink flowers show anyway.
