HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

dill fireworks!

echinacea fireworks!

sedum sparklers!

i mulched the potager with sweet peet... we'll see if it's worth it...

this cucumber vine is about to reach out and touch someone...

i love when the potager looks full and green like this, and is producing every day for dinner...

we are building a retaining wall to replace the one that fell... hubs went and got some rocks...

and we've been letting gravity do as much as possible to get the rocks into the yard...

more to follow! hubs is outside digging a trench in 90 degree heat to prepare the foundation...
happy birthday to our swell country!

  3. I can relate to the rocks as I'm in the process of building a rock garden for miniature and dwarf conifers. Love your magnolia... wish they grew here! Larry

  4. Hi again Em... got your comment and thought I'd respond here as well... By the way, is your brother on the net? I'm just playing with hybridizing, but it is fun! Some of my brugs are in large containers (cattle tanks) and others directly in the ground... all get potted and moved to the basement for winter... one thing is certain... they are very unhappy with the full sun and 95 degrees this afternoon... they'll be fine later this evening however. I have had better luck with delphiniums than many, getting three to five years out of them. However, there are great reports concerning the New Millenium strain out of New Zealand which supposedly holds up to heat and humidity better and are longer lived. I'm switching to these entirely. Tried ordering seeds from New Zealand and had minimal luck although did get a half dozen plants. There is a small nursery near here that carries them and I will purchase a few more.
Also just noticed your mountain Laurel from an earlier post... I love them, tried them years ago, but no luck... our soil is pretty much neutral and I suspect I couldn't meet their needs in that area. Larry
